Santos Brasil opens office in Caxias do Sul and expands logistics operations in the South of Brazil

Santos Brasil, which has one of the largest container terminals in Latin America, opened an office in Caxias do Sul (RS) in order to facilitate contact with shippers from Rio Grande do Sul and reinforce the importance of the region for the company. In addition to the new office, the company also operates the container terminal at the Port of Imbituba, Tecon Imbituba (SC), located around 350 kilometers from the city of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the company, the new representation, located in W Tower Mallaims to deepen relationships with businesspeople in the region, seeking solutions to their demands and overcoming logistical bottlenecks.

In March this year, Tecon Imbituba reached its highest movement, with 17,459 TEUs. This historic record is the result of investments aimed at increasing operational capacity, including the modernization of infrastructure and an increase in the number of employees. Between 2024 and 2025, Santos Brasil allocated R$75 million to acquire equipment and implement new operational systems, making it possible to offer three weekly maritime services.

The company also highlighted the integration of Tecon Imbituba with Tecon Santos, which connects cargo handled in Imbituba to the international route network from the São Paulo terminal, also operated by the company.

Furthermore, he highlighted the strategic location of the terminal, which is between Curitiba (PR) and Porto Alegre (RS), close to Florianópolis, with access by road and rail. The Santa Catarina unit is located in a deep-water, sheltered port, capable of receiving the largest ships arriving on the Brazilian coast without restrictions, regardless of draft or weather conditions.

This movement by Santos Brasil strengthens the importance of the South of Brazil in the logistics and cargo transport market, with emphasis on the role of the steel sector, which depends on the efficiency of port terminals for flow and distribution.

For Danilo Ramos, commercial director of port operations at Santos Brasil, the company is prepared to absorb demand from the South. “We believe that this approach will bring more competitive commercial solutions, strengthening shippers’ confidence and facilitating the development of new businesses from Imbituba”, he states.
