Santos (SP) – The Santos Port Authority (APS) remains committed to recovering the historic ship Professor Besnard, a vessel considered an important heritage in Brazilian maritime and port history. During a press conference held this week (17), the president of APS, Anderson Pomini, updated the progress of the work and highlighted the port authority’s efforts to restore the vessel to its preservation conditions.

According to Pomini, one of the most complex stages of the process has already been completed: the refloating of the vessel, a technical procedure that allowed the ship to be removed from the condition in which it was found and allowing the necessary assessments for its recovery to continue.

According to the president of APS, the work is now focused on detailed technical analyzes that will highlight the real structural state of the vessel and the investments necessary for its complete restoration. The studies will also be essential to define the scope of interventions that will have to be carried out on a specialized site.

APS reported that the process requires caution due to the historical relevance of the ship and the complexity of the operations involved. Technicians and specialists evaluate various aspects of the structure to determine the costs and feasibility of the next steps.

During the press conference, Pomini spoke about the initially planned schedule, and highlighted that APS’s focus is to ensure that all phases are executed with safety and technical responsibility. According to him, the objective is to ensure that the recovery is carried out properly, preserving the historical importance of the vessel for future generations.

The president also highlighted that the recovery of the Professor Besnard ship is part of a broader policy of valuing Brazilian port and maritime memory. The initiative seeks not only to recover a historic vessel, but also to strengthen the preservation of heritage linked to the evolution of the Port of Santos and national navigation.

APS’s expectation is that, after completing the technical analyzes and defining the necessary investments, the next steps will be established for transporting the vessel to the shipyard and carrying out the recovery works.

With the refloating already completed and studies progressing, the Santos Port Authority reinforces its commitment to preserving an important historical landmark in the Brazilian maritime sector, demonstrating the institutional effort to ensure that the ship Professor Besnard can once again occupy its prominent place in the national port memory.
