The initiative is part of the Cenep Foundation’s Porto-Cities Connection Project, which will be responsible for planning, organizing and teaching classes completely free of charge to students, providing qualified instructors. Cenep’s actions will be financed by the Santos Port Authority (APS).

Among the course options offered are:

  • Immersion in the Port Ecosystem
  • Small Forklift Operator
  • Container Surveyor
  • Work at Height (NR35)
  • Introduction to Port Management

The qualification is primarily aimed at residents in situations of social vulnerability, professionals looking for a new job and young people entering the job market.

The City Hall also intends to direct students directly to open positions in the port sector, creating a faster cycle between qualification and hiring.

The president of APS, Anderson Pomini, commented on the importance of the initiative. “The Porto-Cities Connection Project was created to transform latent potential into concrete opportunities. We need to expand the initiatives that promote the social development of the entire Baixada Santista”, he stated.

Among the responsibilities of the São Vicente Department of Employment, Labor and Income (Setre) are the dissemination of training, carrying out the candidate selection process and guaranteeing spaces and infrastructure for classes to take place. The partnership will operate as a pilot project, lasting six months.

The mayor of São Vicente, Kayo Amado, highlighted the relevance of the measure for local development. “The city needed to attract quality training, especially in the continental area. Porto brings many impacts, but we need to balance the balance of impacts with more positive externalities”, he stated.
