WeChat opens up to smartphone AI assistants after ByteDance phone backlash

HONG KONG — Tencent has quietly granted certain smartphone makers access to its ubiquitous app WeChat as the Chinese tech giant pushes deeper into the AI phone space, a sector that has drawn concern and pushback from financial institutions.
