BW LNG lines up FSRU newbuild at HD Hyundai

BW LNG has been named as the contractor behind a new floating storage and regasification unit at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.

Brokers report the Singapore-based gas shipping player has signed up for a 174,000 cu m FSRU, costing roughly $320m, for delivery in the second quarter of 2029.

The vessel is tied to BW Group’s new Indonesian floating regas project with PT AKR Corporindo.

AKRA and BW Group entity BW FSRU VII have set up a joint venture, PT Andalanesa Energi Primer, to develop an LNG FSRU project for the JIIPE Gresik Special Economic Zone in East Java.

Each side will hold 49% of the venture, with the remaining 2% taken by AKRA’s parent, PT Arthakencana Rayatama.

The FSRU is expected to support the development of LNG infrastructure at the JIIPE LNG terminal project, with commercial operations targeted for the third quarter of 2029.

BW LNG, which controls a fleet of more than 30 LNG carriers and FSRUs, has also been active in conventional LNG carrier newbuildings this year. Splash reported in May that the BW Group unit had firmed up two 174,000 cu m vessels at HD Hyundai Samho for delivery in the second half of 2029. Those ships followed an earlier two-vessel LNG carrier deal at the same yard last November.
