Shipping incident: Projectile hits LNG carrier in Strait of Hormuz

Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), Qatar’s shipping and maritime player, has reported a vessel incident in the Strait of Hormuz.

Nakilat has confirmed that its Al Rekayyat liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier (LNGC) was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

“None of the crew members on board were injured, and there is no impact on the environment as a result of this incident,” emphasized Qatar’s shipping firm.

The company remains in close coordination with the vessel and its crew, as it continues to closely monitor the situation.

“The safety of our people, the protection of the environment, and the integrity of our assets remain Nakilat’s highest priorities,” added the Persian Gulf state’s player.

Nakilat provides an essential transportation link in Qatar’s LNG supply chain, with a fleet comprising 69 LNG vessels, one FSRU, and two large LPG carriers.

This incident comes three months after QatarEnergy announced the missile attack on the Aqua 1 fuel oil tanker in the northern territorial waters of the State of Qatar.

Qatar’s state-owned oil and gas giant also recently revealed the start of an investigation into an explosion and fire that occurred at its LNG production and export hub.

After the U.S. and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran, which closed the Strait of Hormuz in response, QatarEnergy halted LNG production and declared force majeure to its LNG buyers.

In the aftermath of attacks on oil and gas facilities across the Gulf region, the company estimated a loss of $20 billion in annual revenue.
