Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced the creation of a new scheduled container shipping service connecting West African ports to the Mediterranean. The initiative is part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in emerging markets and offer more logistical alternatives for importers and exporters.
The new maritime corridor seeks to strengthen connectivity between two regions that have been experiencing growth in commercial exchange, especially in the industrialized products, food, commodities and consumer goods segments.

By expanding its service network, ONE intends to offer greater operational flexibility to customers, reducing connection times and increasing the predictability of operations on international routes.
West Africa has established itself as a market of growing interest for global shipowners, driven by the economic expansion of several countries in the region and the increased demand for more efficient logistics infrastructure. At the same time, Mediterranean ports play a strategic role as distribution centers for southern Europe, northern Africa and part of the Middle East.
Industry experts assess that new maritime connections contribute to increasing the competitiveness of logistics chains, creating alternatives for cargo transport and reducing dependence on traditional routes. The diversification of services also strengthens the resilience of operations in the face of fluctuations in international trade.
The expansion takes place against a backdrop of reorganization of global shipping networks, with shipowners reviewing scales, frequency of services and operational alliances to meet changes in global demand for maritime transport.
For exporters and importers, the expansion of the service offering tends to provide greater logistical planning capacity, new connection options and potential reduction in operating costs on certain routes.
Analysis of the Port Journal
The creation of new maritime services reflects a trend observed among large shipowners: expanding geographic coverage to serve growing markets and offering greater flexibility to global supply chains.
Although the new corridor is concentrated in Africa and the Mediterranean, movements like this influence the balance of global capacity supply and could generate indirect impacts on other routes, including those that connect South America to the main consumption centers.
