Enersea’s LNG solution for South American project offers ‘cost-effective’ alternative to jetties

The Netherlands-headquartered offshore energy engineering player Enersea has unveiled a liquefied natural gas (LNG) loading platform concept as part of an LNG infrastructure development in South America, spotlighting the role of innovation in upping the LNG terminal development ante while cutting costs.

Enersea has developed what it described as an innovative LNG loading platform concept that enables a “cost-effective” alternative to traditional jetty-based LNG import infrastructure. Optimized for shallow offshore and nearshore environments, the platform is said to reduce offshore construction activities, accelerate project schedules, and lower overall project costs.

This compact design can be fully assembled onshore and installed offshore in a single lift, minimizing installation risks and execution time. The viability of the concept has recently been demonstrated through its positive evaluation in an undisclosed LNG infrastructure development, deemed to be a major one in South America.

The Dutch player highlighted: “The project confirmed the benefits of the platform approach, showcasing how innovative offshore engineering can accelerate terminal development while reducing complexity and costs.

“Combining decades of offshore engineering expertise with an innovative mindset, Enersea develops smart infrastructure solutions that help clients reduce project complexity, accelerate delivery and lower costs.”

Among South American LNG projects that have drawn a lot of attention is Argentina LNG in the San Matías Gulf in Argentina’s Río Negro province. Southern Energy’s FLNG project will have a combined capacity of about 6 million tons per annum (mtpa).

This development will liquefy natural gas from the General San Martin pipeline aboard the FLNG Hilli Episeyowith commercial operations expected to begin in September 2027.

The second unit, FLNG MK IIwill come online in late 2028. The project is expected to produce 2.45 million tons of LNG annually in its first phase, equivalent to approximately 28 cargoes per year.
