Absence of the Ministry at a hearing on Tecon Santos 10 expands debate in the port sector

The public hearing that discussed the leasing project for Tecon Santos 10, the future mega container terminal at the Port of Santos, was marked by a factor that caught the attention of operators, workers and agents in the logistics sector: the absence of the Ministry of Ports and Airports in the debate.

Held by the National Waterway Transport Agency, the session aimed to gather technical and legal contributions for the modeling of the auction, considered the largest in national port history.

The project foresees billion-dollar investments and the expansion of container handling capacity in Santos by up to 50%, consolidating the complex as a logistics hub in Latin America.

The absence of the federal portfolio, however, generated repercussions among representatives of the sector, especially given the strategic importance of the enterprise.

Tecon Santos 10 has been the subject of intense debates involving rules for participation in the event, restrictions on operators already installed in the port and possible competitive impacts.

Behind the scenes, the project has faced successive adjustments.

Recently, the federal government requested the suspension of preparations for the bidding, with the aim of reviewing the guidelines and leasing modeling, with no new date set for the auction.

The terminal is seen as a key piece in alleviating operational bottlenecks in Santos, especially given the growth in the movement of containerized cargo and the pressure for new investments in infrastructure.

At the same time, the modeling of the notice remains at the center of disputes between economic groups, shipowners and control bodies.

The market’s expectation is that discussions will resume in the coming weeks, with a possible redefinition of the rules of the event and a new schedule for the auction.
