After criticism, Porto de Santos reinforces works on Avenida Perimetral

The Santos Port Authority (APS) reported that it has reinforced the resurfacing work on Avenida Perimetral do Porto de Santos. The road, responsible for receiving a large flow of vehicles, is one of the main means of access to the port complex and has been the target of complaints, especially in relation to the asphalt, which contains holes and unevenness that increase the risk of accidents.

Avenida Perimetral connects the Historic Center to Ponta da Praia and, due to the intense daily flow of vehicles, mainly trucks heading to the port terminals, it ends up suffering the consequences of this traffic. Drivers also complain about traffic difficulties and highlight losses resulting from poor road conditions.
APS reported that it was necessary to hire another company to carry out the service, due to the poor performance of the previous provider. “APS was forced to open a new tender, which had several appeals from the bidders. The new contract was signed in March. And the work was intensified”, stated the company’s press office.

Also according to the Porto management company, the contract with the old company was terminated on February 6th. The new agreement (which lasts 30 months) provides for some measures, such as the recovery of the asphalt pavement and sections with cobblestones, repairs to the rainwater drainage system, among others, in areas under the responsibility of the Port Authority.
Furthermore, the contract also includes the supply of materials, equipment and specialized labor to guarantee the completion of tasks on the Avenue.
With the return of works, the teams began to work at strategic points. The resurfacing takes place on Avenida Augusto Barata, in front of the BTP terminal, towards Ponta da Praia. There are also interventions on Avenida Antônio Prado, in the stretch between Rua Cristiano Otoni and the Armazém 1 level crossing. Pothole filling operations occur daily, on demand, minimizing risks for vehicle drivers.
