Northern ports handled 24.2 million tons in the first two months, an increase of 13%

Port movement in the North region began 2026 at a strong pace of growth. According to data from the Antaq Waterway Statisticiancompiled by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), northern ports handled 24.2 million tons between January and February, a result that represents an increase in 12,85% compared to the same period in 2025.

The performance was mainly driven by solid bulkwho responded for 18.4 million tonswith growth of 15,28%. The result reflects the advancement of agricultural and mineral production, in addition to the consolidation of North Arch as a strategic route for the flow of Brazilian production, reducing logistics costs and bringing cargo closer to international markets.

The movement of containers also showed significant evolution, reaching 2 million tonshigh 15,8%while the general cargo added 1 million tonsgrowth of 4,5% not period.

Among the main commodities, military led the movement with 8.6 million tonsfollowed by bauxitecom 4.1 million tons. Together, the two commodities represented 52.5% of all cargo moved in the region. Another major highlight was the cornwhich reached 3 million tonswith growth exceeding 114%highlighting the strengthening of the North as a logistics corridor for Brazilian agribusiness.

In foreign trade, exports increased 16.9% in the first two months. The navigation of long haul moved 9.1 million tonswith an increase of 11,9%while the cabotage registered 2 million tonsgrowth of 7,9%.

Os private terminals (TUPs) accounted for most of the movement, with 17.1 million tonsrepresenting more than 70% do volume total of the region. Among the highlights are the Hermasa Bulk Terminal (AM)o Trombetas Terminal (PA) and the Porto Chibatão (AM)all with significant growth.

Already the public ports moved 7.1 million tonswith an increase of 19,3%reinforcing the complementary role of these structures. Among the highlights are the Port of Vila do Conde (PA) and the Port of Santarém (PA)the latter with significant growth in 51,8%.

The result consolidates the North region as one of the country’s main logistics hubs, especially in the flow of agricultural and mineral commodities.
