A handwritten bomb-threat note found in a women’s toilet at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport triggered an extensive security search on Friday, 23 October, prompting authorities to clear the area around a boarding gate. Flight operations continued without disruption, according to officials cited by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The note, written on a piece of tissue paper, reportedly warned of a bomb at boarding gate 30. A member of the airport cleaning staff discovered the message and alerted the authorities, setting off a security response involving the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the bomb squad and local police. No suspicious object had been found at the time of the initial report, while the search was still underway. <Cite refs={[“turn101734search0”]}/>

The incident highlights the security procedures airports must activate when a potential threat is reported, even when there is no immediate evidence of an explosive device.

Following the discovery of the note, authorities cleared the area around the boarding gate identified in the message and launched a search of the airport premises.
