A broad coalition of maritime, agriculture, manufacturing, retail and logistics organisations sent to the U.S. Trade Representative a letter asking for permanent suspension of U.S. port fees.

In an October 30 letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the coalition welcomed the two-month extension of the suspension of the Section 301 vessel fees related to China’s targeting of the maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors.

The groups backed the decision to extend the suspension until 9 January 2027 but have called for a further extension or permanent suspension of the Section 301 vessel fees.

During the suspension period, no party would be required to pay the fees on maritime transport services.
