The Centre has approved ₹430.68 crore in dredging assistance for Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority, Kolkata, towards expenditure incurred in FY2024–25 and FY2025–26. The support helps meet the recurring cost of maintaining access to Kolkata and Haldia, while future assistance will depend on operational performance and progressively decline.
The Kolkata port dredging subsidy will meet ₹430.68 crore of a ₹764.37 crore maintenance bill for the two financial years. The port authority will bear the remaining ₹333.69 crore.
The Department of Expenditure conveyed approval through an office memorandum dated 22 October 2026.
The assistance relates to maintaining the Hooghly River navigation channels serving the Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex. It is financial support towards earlier expenditure, rather than a newly awarded dredging contract or an announcement of additional channel depth.
