Polish freight operator PKP Cargo is apparently planning another round of collective layoffs before the end of the year, along with changes to how its staff are paid, according to Polish rail media.

Responding to the reports, PKP Cargo told the Polish Press Agency that restructuring administrator Paweł Głodek is analysing the company’s situation, including “employment optimisation”, but that the scale, timing and groups of staff affected by any collective redundancies have yet to be determined. Głodek has been running the company since September, when a Warsaw court stripped its management board of control.

According to Kolejowy Portal, Głodek outlined the plans to trade unions at a meeting on 3 November. A headcount review and further collective redundancies are reportedly planned for the fourth quarter, alongside cuts to payroll costs.

New remuneration rules are said to be due from January 2027. The employer also reportedly considers the draft of a new company collective labour agreement too costly, and is tying its conclusion to an improvement in the company’s finances and the results of the restructuring.
