The first Alstom Avelia Horizon trainsets — now branded TGV Nouvelle Génération by national operator SNCF Voyageurs — began carrying passengers on November 6. Jérémie Anne reports from onboard the first service from Paris to Marseille.
The passenger launch of the 320 km/h trainsets took place in the presence of Minister for Transport Philippe Tabarot, SNCF Group Chairman & CEO Jean Castex and Alstom Chairman & CEO Martin Sion.
An initial six trainsets have entered revenue service, operating between Paris Gare de Lyon and Marseille St-Charles. A Paris – Nice return service will be added at the end of November, and services to the Alps are to follow in 2027.
Alstom said the Avelia Horizon represents the most significant evolution in its very high speed train architecture since the TGV Duplex which entered service in 1996.
