Automation and AI transform railway in the Port of Santos

Vanessa Rodrigues

The modernization of railway operations at the Port of Santos is already a reality driven by investments in technology and innovation. Integration 5.0 highlighted the implementation of intelligent systems, such as advanced control centers and automation of operational processes.

Among the highlights is the adoption of electric switches, which replace manual operations and significantly increase efficiency. Furthermore, the use of artificial intelligence allows optimizing the planning of railway yards, reducing waste and improving the flow of cargo.

Another important advance is the use of hybrid locomotives, which combine diesel engines with electrical energy generation, contributing to the reduction of emissions. There are also studies underway to adopt fully electric locomotives.

Structural projects, such as the construction of circular switching yards, promise to revolutionize railway operations by allowing greater agility in loading and unloading. The goal is to double operational capacity by 2030, consolidating the port as a global reference in logistics efficiency.
