Cubatão bets on renewable energy hub to boost low-carbon industry

The city of Cubatão is preparing for a new stage of industrial development, focusing on the energy transition and the consolidation of a renewable energy and circular economy hub.

The proposal, articulated by municipal management, aims to attract manufacturing industries with a sustainable profile, aligned with the best environmental, social and governance practices. The objective is to diversify the local economic matrix, historically based on basic industries, and increase the generation of jobs and income.

According to public administration representatives, the plan involves creating conditions for companies with low carbon emissions to set up shop in the municipality, respecting the region’s environmental characteristics and contributing to the recovery of historical liabilities.

The initiative also seeks to integrate technological innovation and environmental responsibility, encouraging more efficient and less impactful production models. The circular economy emerges as one of the main strategic axes, promoting the reuse of resources and the reduction of industrial waste.

Another central point is the strengthening of the relationship between industry and the environment. The city, which was once a symbol of environmental degradation in the 1970s and 1980s, today stands as an example of recovery and transformation, using this experience as a basis for new public policies.

The strategy also includes improving urban and environmental infrastructure, with investments in sanitation, territorial planning and recovery of degraded areas, ensuring an environment conducive to new sustainable businesses.

With this movement, Cubatão seeks not only to attract investments, but also to consolidate itself as a national reference in low-carbon industry, reinforcing its competitiveness on the global stage.
