Last week, the Federal Government presented the project for the new Manaus Moderna Terminal, one of the largest waterway infrastructure initiatives planned for the North region of the country. With investments estimated at R$875.9 million through the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), the project is expected to significantly expand passenger and cargo transport capacity in the Amazon.
Located in Manaus, the terminal was designed to handle approximately 3.5 million passengers per year, in addition to ensuring the transport of cargo considered essential for the Amazonian population, such as food, medicines and supply products.

The structure will directly serve 61 riverside municipalities, in addition to the capital of Amazonas, benefiting around 4.5 million people who depend daily on river navigation for travel, commerce and access to basic services.
The contract to carry out the works was signed in March this year, with completion scheduled for 2029. The project is being developed by the Ministry of Ports and Airports in partnership with the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT).
Among the main interventions planned are the construction of new floating docks, mobile bridges, passenger and cargo terminals, operational areas, parking lots, sewage treatment station, electricity substation, in addition to structures aimed at accessibility and user safety.
The works also include urban improvements around the traditional Banana Fair, an important popular shopping center located in the central region of Manaus, contributing to the revitalization of the area and the organization of local economic activities.
During the presentation of the project, the Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, highlighted the strategic relevance of the project for the development of Amazonian logistics infrastructure and for the integration of communities that depend on rivers as their main means of transport.
According to the minister, the new terminal represents a significant advance for regional mobility and the strengthening of the local economy.
“We are talking about an investment of almost R$900 million to expand the terminal’s operational capacity and guarantee greater safety, accessibility, comfort and dignity for the millions of passengers who depend daily on river transport. It is a project that strengthens logistics, boosts the regional economy and improves the lives of riverside populations”, he stated.
The presentation of the project took place during the President of the Republic’s agenda, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvain Amazonas, focused on investments in naval infrastructure, waterway logistics and regional development.
With completion scheduled for 2029, the Manaus Moderna Terminal is expected to consolidate itself as one of the main waterway hubs in the Amazon, increasing logistical efficiency, promoting regional integration and offering better transport conditions for millions of Brazilians who depend on Amazonian waterways.
