JBS terminal in Itajaí records fire and raises alert after case in Rio Grande

In less than a week, two large fires in port equipment put logistics operations in the south of the country on alert.

The first occurrence was recorded in Friday, April 24, 2026no Port of Rio Grande (RS)where a crane in operation in the area of Gate 4 was hit by fire while unloading fertilizer from the ship Longevity Diva.
According to initial reports, there were explosions in the equipment before the flames started. The operator managed to leave the cabin safely, and crews from Portos RSFire Department and Mutual Aid Plan (PAM) acted in the emergency response.
Less than 24 hours later, in Saturday night, April 25, 2026a new fire was recorded in the JBS Terminais terminalno Port of Itajaí (SC).
The fire reached a MHC (Mobile Harbor Crane) type cranecausing intense smoke and quickly mobilizing the port complex’s emergency teams.
In the second case, one of the highlights of the operation was the support of tugboats equipped with Fire Fighting systemused directly to help fight flames and cool the operational area.
O tug SAAM Antares participated in the incident, providing support to the teams on the ground, together with the terminal’s fixed fire fighting system, internal brigade and Fire Department.
The integrated action of tugboats with a system Fire Fighting was instrumental in preventing the fire from spreading to containers, other equipment and boats near the dock.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, there was no official record of victimswith material damage confirmed with the loss of equipment.
The succession of the two incidents, in different terminals and different statesreignites the debate on preventive maintenance, technical inspection of cranes and investments in operational safety in the country’s main ports.
