The contract, with a term of 25 years, provides for an initial investment of R$3.75 million (Capex) that will be directed towards the modernization and expansion of the terminal’s facilities. The total area of the project covers 5,678.23 m², with an exclusive focus on passenger movement, and has the capacity to serve up to 612 passengers per day.
The initial investments will be in the implementation of a better structured parking lot, which will be built in an area of 3,050 m², fully paved and will receive a more efficient drainage system. In total, 112 places will be available.
Furthermore, the concessionaire will be responsible for acquiring new furniture such as chairs, tables and sofas for the lobby and mezzanine, as well as cutting-edge equipment for controlling passengers and luggage, ensuring comfort and safety for users. The contract also covers the port authority’s reversible assets, such as fire-fighting equipment, infirmary items, and signaling and security systems (CCTV and access control).
Minister Tomé Franca highlighted the strategic importance of the project for the country and, in particular, for Alagoas. “The signing of this contract represents an important step for the Port of Maceió and for tourism in Alagoas. We are investing in the present and future of the region, generating jobs, promoting the local economy and offering a modern and welcoming gateway for visitors from all over the world. The sustainable development and prosperity of the people of Alagoas is President Lula’s commitment”, he stated.
The Port of Maceió, managed by the Administration of the Port of Maceió (APMC) and linked to Companhia Docas Rio Grande do Norte (Codern), is recognized as a “natural port” due to its privileged location between the beaches of Pajuçara and Jaraguá, facilitating the docking of vessels.
Water Paradise
Alagoas, with its natural beauty and rich popular culture, has consolidated tourist potential as a global highlight. The modernization of the Maritime Passenger Terminal at the Port of Maceió is a catalyst for this segment, as it improves the arrival experience of visitors, whether cruise tourists or travelers looking for paradisiacal beaches and local cuisine.
With cutting-edge infrastructure, the port not only facilitates access, but also projects an image of modernity and efficiency, crucial elements to attract a growing flow of tourists and, consequently, generate more income and opportunities for the population of Alagoas.
