The planned actions include the protection of mangroves, birds and aquatic species, in addition to analyzing the quality of water, sediments and effluents generated from the port’s operations. In addition, monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions, control of particles in the air and environmental education and communication projects with neighboring communities are planned.

According to Ernesto Sampaio, president of the Port of São Sebastião, the investment seeks to balance the growth of port activities with environmental preservation and operational safety.

“Investing in environmental monitoring is to strengthen the sustainability and safety of port operations. Continuous monitoring of ecosystems and our prevention and response capacity allow us to maintain an operation aligned with environmental protection and the requirements of regulatory bodies”, he states.

The port of São Paulo has been adopting protocols to reduce impacts on marine fauna during operations. In 2025, for example, maintenance dredging mobilized R$2.7 million in environmental monitoring actions. As early as 2026, the administration will maintain teams on standby and promote training to prepare the port community for possible emergencies.
