Portos RS completes dredging of the Belém Channel and begins work on the Junco Channel

Portos RS announced the completion of the dredging of the Belém Channel, a work that is part of the dredging schedule in the Rio Grande do Sul waterway. Continuing with the actions, on June 12, the company also began dredging the Junco Channel.

The works rely on resources from the Rio Grande Plan Fund (FUNRIGS), which allocates more than R$731 million for the reconstruction and qualification of the waterway and port infrastructure in Rio Grande do Sul.

The Junco Canal works are expected to be completed in approximately 60 days and are carried out by two CSD (Cutter Suction Dredger) type dredgers, called Belo Monte and Mariana.

Fábio Machado, president of Portos RS, declared that the completion of the dredging of Canal Belém and the beginning of work on Canal Junco represent another concrete step in the process of recovery and strengthening of Rio Grande do Sul’s waterway infrastructure.

“We are advancing in a planned and continuous manner, ensuring better navigability conditions, more safety for operations and greater logistical efficiency for Rio Grande do Sul. These investments reflect the commitment of the State Government and Portos RS to the resumption of development, increasing the competitiveness of our ports and waterways and strengthening a fundamental mode for the economy of Rio Grande do Sul”, says Machado.

The works are part of a broader contract, which includes the dredging of eight strategic channels of the waterway: Pedras Brancas, Humaitá, Cais do Porto, Navegantes, Cristal, Belém, Junco and Campista.

The initiatives represent the continuous effort to recover and modernize waterway infrastructure, ensuring greater reliability in waterway transport and contributing to the logistical integration of Rio Grande do Sul.
