Record operation reinforces the role of Brazilian waterway logistics

The Bertolini group completes one year of operating one of the largest river grain transport trains in Brazil in terms of cargo volume, consolidating its role as a reference in logistical integration between highways and waterways. Currently operating in the Estreitos region, in Pará, the structure transports 62.5 thousand tons of grain per trip between Miritituba and Vila do Conde, reinforcing the strategic importance of Arco Norte for national agribusiness.
According to the company, the train’s operational capacity is approximately 25% higher than that of similar operations on the market. This gain made it possible to expand the composition from 20 to 30 barges, significantly increasing the efficiency of waterway transport.

baptized by Bertolini CLthe convoy is equipped with four 12-cylinder engines from Mitsubishi Marine, with a power of 1,180 hp each. The vessel was built at the Beconal shipyard, belonging to the Bertolini group itself, and has approximately 450 deadweight tons.
The logistical impact of the operation is significant. Each trip made by the convoy is equivalent to the removal of around 1,250 trucks from Brazilian highways, contributing to the reduction of heavy traffic, operational costs and emissions associated with land transport.
The cargo transported is mainly composed of soybeans produced in the Brazilian cerrado. The grains follow waterway corridors on the south bank of the Amazon River to strategic terminals located in Itacoatiara, Santarém, Porto Velho and Belém, from where they are subsequently shipped to the international market.
For the industrial director of the Bertolini group, Flávio Silveira, the project represents a milestone in the evolution of national logistics.
“It is one of the most robust examples of the growth of road-river integration in Brazil, a logistical model that has been gaining prominence, after all it reduces costs, increases operational efficiency and reduces environmental impacts”, highlighted.
The project was also highlighted by Mitsubishi Marine, a Bertolini partner since 2006. According to Rodrigo Teixeira, the company’s maritime business leader, the engines used in the convoy offer simplicity of installation, ease of maintenance and high operational reliability.
“This is a historic moment for river transport in Brazil. With the partnership, we are redefining efficiency and performance standards in the sector”, said Teixeira.
The expansion of waterway logistics has been considered one of the main alternatives to increase the competitiveness of Brazilian exports, especially in the flow of grains through Arco Norte, reducing dependence on road transport and expanding the capacity to move cargo towards international markets.
