Integration Program Disclosure
The future of the Historic Center of Santos depends on the resumption of urban occupation and the attraction of new investments. The assessment was presented during the Integration 5.0 program, which debated alternatives to revitalize one of the most important regions of the city.
Among the proposals discussed is encouraging retrofit projects, a modality that transforms old buildings into modern spaces for housing and short-term accommodation. According to participants, the arrival of new residents can stimulate commerce, increase security and create a more favorable environment for new ventures.

During an interview with the Integração 5.0 program, the lawyer and journalist Marcelo Pavão highlighted that the revitalization of the Historic Center of Santos must be treated as an economic, tourist and social development strategy for the entire Baixada Santista. According to him, the repopulation of the region, combined with investments in security, culture and infrastructure, can boost job creation and attract new businesses to the city.
Pavão also highlighted the strong connection between the Historic Center and the trajectory of Port of Santos. Much of Santos’ port history was born and developed in the central region, where there are important architectural, commercial and cultural heritages that helped build the identity of the port community and the population of Santos. For the expert, valuing this historical legacy is fundamental to strengthening tourism, preserving the city’s memory and bringing the port even closer to society.
The program also highlighted the need to review public policies related to historical heritage, defending a greater balance between preservation and economic development. The generation of jobs through cultural, gastronomic, sporting and historical tourism was highlighted as a strategic opportunity for the region.
Another point addressed was the need to integrate actions between public authorities, businesspeople and educational institutions, creating an ecosystem capable of generating opportunities for young professionals and strengthening the Santos economy.
