Hutchison Ports TIMSA has taken delivery of two new eRTGs from ZPMC for its operation at the Port of Manzanillo, Mexico.
The two new electric Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes (e-RTGs) as part of an investment exceeding 70 million pesos aimed at strengthening the terminal’s operational capacity.
“The equipment arrived on June 29, 2026, aboard the vessel Xiang He Kou from China and will be integrated into yard operations to optimise container handling and respond to the growth in logistics activity. Each crane has a lifting capacity of 45 metric tons, which will enable operations to be carried out with greater efficiency, productivity, and safety, while also strengthening the terminal’s capacity to handle increasing cargo volumes,” TIMSA said in a statement.
With a lift height of 24m the RTGs can stack containers 1-over-7, which is relatively unusual for RTG cranes but has been specified by TIMSA for ZPMCs going back to an order 2012, WorldCargo News’ yard crane data shows.
The cranes are electrically powered using a buss bar. “The incorporation of 100% electric technology helps improve the energy efficiency of operations and is part of Hutchison Ports’ commitment to its global NET Zero strategy to move toward increasingly sustainable operations. This investment is in addition to the expansion initiatives being carried out by Hutchison Ports TIMSA in Manzanillo, including the launch of a new outdoor yard to increase the terminal’s logistics capacity and optimise container flow. With this modernisation, Hutchison Ports TIMSA is strengthening its infrastructure, increasing its operational capacity, and contributing to the competitiveness of the Port of Manzanillo, Mexico’s leading port for container traffic,” TIMSA concluded.
