The Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, presented this Wednesday (27), the project for the Manaus Moderna Terminal, in Amazonas. The new terminal will be able to handle around 3.5 million passengers per year, in addition to transporting essential cargo, such as food and medicine. The system also has investments of R$875.9 million, with resources from the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program).

The project, led by the Ministry of Ports and Airports in partnership with the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit), will directly serve 61 riverside municipalities, the city of Manaus and around 4.5 million people in the Amazon. The works contract was signed in March this year, and completion is scheduled for 2029.

The initiative includes the construction of floating docks, mobile bridges, passenger and cargo terminals, operation areas, parking lots, a sewage treatment plant, an energy substation and accessibility and safety structures. The works also include improvements in the area surrounding the Banana Fair, an important popular shopping center in Manaus.

“We are talking about an investment of almost R$900 million to expand the terminal’s operational capacity and guarantee greater safety, accessibility, comfort and dignity for the millions of passengers who depend daily on transport through rivers. It is a project that strengthens logistics, boosts the regional economy and improves the lives of riverside populations”, stated Minister Tomé Franca.
