Suape Energia, located in the Suape Port Industrial Complex (PE), announced, this Thursday (28), the completion of the implementation of the Ethanol Project, a pioneering initiative that includes the world’s first engine powered almost exclusively by ethanol, aimed at thermal energy generation.

The project was developed in partnership with Wärtsilä Energy and represents a strategic advance for the Brazilian energy transition, placing Pernambuco and Brazil at the center of discussions on innovation, decarbonization and energy security. The project now advances to the operational phase and future technological validation of the solution in a real environment.

The inauguration event was attended by representatives of the sugar and alcohol sector (responsible for the production of sugar, alcohol and sugarcane derivatives), public authorities, members of the Government of Pernambuco, the Port of Suape, the Energy Research Company (EPE), as well as executives and experts from the electrical and energy sector.

In addition to the benefits linked to innovation and energy transition, the project reinforces the potential for integration between the energy and sugar-energy sectors, expanding opportunities for national industry and regional development.

During the ceremony, the spokespeople reinforced the potential of ethanol as a strategic fuel for electrical generation, the positive impacts on the sugarcane production chain and the opportunities that technology can open for the development of cleaner, more flexible and sustainable energy solutions.

“We are facing a milestone for the Brazilian energy transition. The development of the world’s first engine powered almost exclusively by ethanol for thermoelectric generation reinforces the role of the Suape Industrial Port Complex in building cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. The initiative strengthens our Energy Transition Hub, consolidating Suape as a strategic environment for innovation and decarbonization. The news announced this Thursday positions Pernambuco as a reference in the sector”, stated the CEO of Suape, Armando Monteiro Bisneto.

“The challenge is not in production or logistics, as Brazil is already a reference in this, but in making the advantages of ethanol-powered electrical generation increasingly known as a clean, stable energy, with low environmental impact and a great contribution to the generation of jobs, economic development and energy independence of the country”, declared the administrative director and representative of Petrobras (minority shareholder), Giane Ferreira Moreira.
