Port of Recife will receive R$115 million for dredging and infrastructure modernization

Disclosure

The Port of Recife will receive an important infrastructure reinforcement in the coming years. The Federal Government announced an investment package of around R$115 million aimed at dredging the access channel and modernizing the defense systems of the Pernambuco port complex.

The announcement was made during the official agenda in Pernambuco last Friday (12), when the Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, and the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, signed the service order for the start of dredging works and formalized new resources destined for the modernization of the port infrastructure.

The main investment will be allocated to dredging to deepen the port, a work covered by the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). With resources exceeding R$100 million, the intervention will allow the Port of Recife to operate with a minimum depth of 12 meters, expanding its capacity to receive larger vessels and increasing the logistical efficiency of operations.

According to the Federal Government, the expectation is that the work will be completed by December 2026, strengthening the competitiveness of the Pernambuco terminal on the national scene.

In addition to dredging, R$ 14.5 million was allocated for the replacement and modernization of the fender systems of the berths from piers 00 to 09. Fenders are fundamental structures to protect both ships and piers during berthing operations. This stage is expected to be completed by May 2027.

Management renewal until 2031

Another important announcement made during the agenda was the renewal of the Port of Recife delegation agreement to the Government of Pernambuco. With the signing of the new agreement, the state administration will remain responsible for the management and operation of the terminal for the next five years, extending the term of the delegation until June 1, 2031.

The new model foresees the implementation of an action plan aimed at improving infrastructure, services and port management. Furthermore, all revenue generated by the port’s operations must be reinvested in the complex itself, in maintenance, expansion, conservation and modernization actions.

For the port’s CEO, Wagner Maciel, the investments come at a strategic time for the economy of Pernambuco.

According to Maciel, the Port of Recife plays a fundamental role in the flow of cargo such as malt, sugar, fertilizers, steel coils and containers, directly contributing to the generation of jobs and the economic development of the state.

“The new delegation allows us to put into action a new investment plan essential for the economy of Pernambuco, which includes maintenance dredging and the renewal of the defense system”, highlighted the director.

Impact on regional logistics

The works reinforce the modernization movement of Brazilian ports and should expand the operational capacity of the Port of Recife, making it more competitive to meet the demands of foreign trade and cabotage.

With greater operational depth, reinforced security and continuous investments in infrastructure, the Pernambuco terminal seeks to consolidate its position as one of the main logistical assets in the Northeast, contributing to the strengthening of production chains and the integration of the state into national and international markets.
