Port of Santos becomes a member of the International Association of Ports and Marinas
Disclosure – APS
The Santos Port Authority (APS) joined the International Association of Ports and Marinas (IAPH), one of the main global entities in the port sector. The accession marks a new step in the international insertion of the largest port complex in Latin America among the most important ports in the world and expands access to initiatives aimed at sustainability and operational efficiency.

Headquartered in Tokyo, IAPH brings together ports and operators from different countries and works to promote good practices related to the environment, innovation and climate resilience. By becoming a member, the Port of Santos becomes part of an international network for exchanging experiences and developing policies aligned with the global demands of the maritime sector.
Among the main benefits of membership is access to the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), a tool that evaluates the environmental performance of vessels based on the emission of polluting gases. The system makes it possible to identify ships that exceed the standards established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), serving as a reference for policies to encourage sustainable navigation.
APS intends to use this data to improve measures already under study, such as granting tariff discounts to so-called green ships (vessels with better environmental performance). The initiative seeks to encourage less polluting practices and align the port with international decarbonization requirements.
Another highlight is the participation in the World Port Sustainability Program (WPSP), which brings together projects and actions in areas such as digitalization, infrastructure, security, environment and energy.
The joining occurs at a time when the port has already been investing in solutions aimed at reducing emissions and the use of cleaner technologies, consolidating a strategy that combines logistical growth with environmental responsibility.
“Being part of IAPH reinforces our commitment to an excellent port operation. We are bringing international sustainability standards to Santos, such as ESI, and connecting our complex to the biggest global debates on logistics efficiency and decarbonization”, points out Beto Mendes, Director of Operations at APS.
